The second Thursday of the month at the fashionable Painted Lady in Toronto was home to a curated group of local psychedelic bands, a scene that has been percolating in the city’s indie underground for years. In name and spirit, Second Thursdays was an homage to the Art Gallery of Ontario’s First Thursdays which featured live bands every month in the heart of the gallery’s collection of fine art. As an homage to 60’s psychedelia, a series of illustrated posters featuring hand-lettered typography and a digital silk-screened look were created, and then animated to promote the evening, placing the artists among the artwork. The series was a standing room only success.
