What on Earth? began as an experimental off-brand environmental newsletter series for CBC News. The masthead logo was developed & designed around a retro sci-fi influence, reflecting upon the past and looking to the future. The visual goal of the newsletter was to draw in a new audience by distancing itself from the recognized CBC News brand. It was only planned to run during the two months leading up to the 2018 UN Climate Change Conference. What on Earth? continues to publish today due to the tremendous connection it has established with its expanding audience.
